4 weddings, 2 summer BBQ parties, a weekend out with the girls, all of which you need/want a different outfit. Add in your children outgrowing any outfit they had last summer and this gets to be an expensive summer purchasing clothes.
We’ve all been there. Something comes up with nothing to wear. I don’t even have a nice dress in my closet for emergency dress up situations!
Those weddings that need to be attended, I hope they’re dress is very casual because I have nothing nice to wear unless I can wear jeans and a t-shirt!
I hate spending a ton of money on a dress that I rarely use (as a work at home mom, I don’t really need to dress up other than in yoga pants and a sweatshirt.)
My closet isn’t the only one to worry about either, going through all my kids’ clothes and they’ve outgrown everything. I have a couple t-shirts I picked up for my son, but with my daughter, it’s too difficult to estimate the size she was going to be for summer, so she has next to nothing for summer clothing.
There’s a way to buy nice things for the family to wear this summer without spending hundreds of dollars for some outfits that you’ll likely only wear once and your children will definitely only wear for 1 season.
In comes Rent the Runway for summer clothes for Mom:
With Rent the Runway, you won’t be purchasing your summer clothes, but it’s a great option for Moms to rent designer clothes for an event that you want to look nice for (since yoga pants are scratched from the list of clothes you can wear!)
Of course, you don’t need to rent a dress for all your summer occasions, but if you have a wedding that you want to look like a million dollars or a high school reunion you want a nice dress for, consider renting from Rent the Runway. Your first rental can be $25 off!
I have rented from Rent the Runway a few times for my husbands’ military balls. Instead of purchasing formal gowns that I’d wear only once, I decided to give Rent the Runway a chance. I loved them and highly recommend them to any person talking about needing to find a dress for a certain occasion!
You may be thinking, “There’s no way I want to rent clothes because of…XYZ”
Here are reasons not to worry:
- You get a backup size for free!
- They have a ton of reviews on their site from REAL women
- For the majority of the clothes, there are customer photos so you can see how each item fits.
- They have very detailed information on fit and suggestions when to size up or not
- They dry clean for you. No worries about getting the clothes cleaned!
- A prepaid envelope comes with your order so when you’re done, just send it right back.
Or you could be thinking, “I don’t need a formal dress, just a casual dress for an outdoor party”
Guess what they have:
- Yes, they have formal dresses and gowns for black tie affairs
- Cocktail dresses
- Party dresses
- Casual dresses
- Daytime dresses
- Work dresses
- Plus sizes
What about the kids’ summer clothes?
Unfortunately, we can’t rent clothes for the season, but at least there are some less expensive choices to purchase summer clothes.
I always start with purchasing my kids’ summer clothes from kids consignment sales. Check out my article here on tips to buy and sell at consignment sales!
If I need the clothes now, rather than waiting for a sale to come. I check out Gymboree and Crazy 8. They always have great sales happening and the clothes will last through the abuse my little boy puts them through!
The best thing about these brands is that I can resell them at consignment sales for more than I would other clothes from cheaper brands.
Don’t sacrifice what you really want for some clothes you’ll only wear once or twice. Get high-quality clothes for your kids, and rent designer clothes for yourself on those special occasions. Imagine what you can buy if you save some money on the clothes you need for your family in the summer.
Where do you get your family summer clothes? Do you have any secrets to saving money?
