I started reading about potty training tips when my son started crawling! At 6 months old, I was thinking way ahead of the curve, but ready for potty training as soon as he started squirming everywhere during diaper changes! I couldn’t wait for the day he potty trained and we could be done with diapers.

My daughter has been a little different in my thought process, but we’re getting to the age where I have to start prepping the area (and myself) to hope for an easy potty training process.

To prep my house for easy potty training, I need my must haves in the house to guarantee success.

Here are my absolute, must-have list for potty training success! (All very affordable)

Here’s why you need it:

  • It’s very affordable similar to any book you may purchase
  • Provides day by day instruction
  • You’ll always be able to reference the course
  • It’s easily accessible online
  • Easy to follow

4. Step Stool

Here’s why you need it:

  • It’ll save your back from having to lift your child up all the time
  • Your child will be able to wash their hands and go to the bathroom on their own without needing an adult to lift them up so they can reach.
  • I love the double step stools since they are a bit higher for the shorter trainers! It makes for easy potty training!

5. Spout extender

Here’s why you need it:

  • Makes it easy for the child to reach the water

Here’s why you need it:

  • This is basic behavioral psychology, reward the behavior you want to see, whether it be with a small treat, praise, a small toy, or something else.
  • Eventually, the reward is eliminated once your child is consistently going potty on the potty.

7. Clorox Wipes

Here’s why you need it:

  • There will be messes. On the floor, on the potty, on the toilet…be prepared so you can quickly wipe up the mess before it spreads else where with little hands playing in the mess!

8. Book/DVD

Here’s why you need it:

  • Your child will be encouraged with a book talking about potty training, or a DVD, or a doll.
  • Whatever gets your child excited, will help encourage easy potty training!
  • Elmo is especially helpful! Or any book that makes sound effects!

9. Portable potty seat (optional)

Here’s why you need it:

  • If your child is especially small, and you’re out and about, your child may get scared sitting on a public toilet seat. They still have to go potty and you don’t want them to have an accident, so having a portable seat allows for your little toddler to easily go to the bathroom without fear of falling in!
  • It comes in blue, pink, or yellow!
  • Small enough to carry in your purse or diaper bag

Final thoughts…

Make sure to have these products in your household to make for an easy potty training process! Remember to be patient with the whole process. There will be accidents, but eventually, potty training will be just a memory!
