Imagine a toy that is new and unlike other toys your children have, offering ways that encourage STREAM learning and imaginative play. Get Qurious is a newer company offering affordable boxes that will keep your kids entertained, learning about space exploration with little help from adults.

First, my son tried the Maker Box from Get Qurious and loved it, exploring a new way to interact with The Three Little Pigs story. You can check out my full review of the Maker Box here.
Get Qurious has now come out with their next box and it is a great experience for young kids!
The explorer box encourages space exploration and creating your own space story for ages 4-8. With the excitement of the solar eclipse happening, this was the perfect toy to continue exploring space! Although, this is more so imaginative space exploration rather than learning about real space exploration.
- 16 double sided cards
- 4 role-playing masks
- 2 double sided treasure hunt mats
- A device that supports iOS version 10 or above (iphone/ipad)
- Download of the free app from the Apple App Store
What I like, as a Mom, besides the learning benefits?
- It’s small and doesn’t take up a ton of space! I can easily store the pieces in a gallon sized bag or keep it in the box it came in.
- It’s so easy to scan the pieces and the app easily reads just a partial image! Making it very user friendly for young children and eliminating frustration if something won’t scan!
What I don’t like about it?
- You have to cut out the 4 masks and tie the strings to the already pre-punched holes before playing with them. This takes a little bit of time (too much time according to young children wondering what this new toy is that they get to explore!)
- Even though you can use your iPhone with this app, I suggest using a bigger screen.
What’s so special about this toy?
There are 4 ways to play with the Explorer Box
- Building your own story
- Mask Play
- Build a Space Ship
- Go for a treasure hunt
1. Build your own story
In build a story, it’s kind of like a mad libs for kids, but instead of a child choosing a noun, verb, adverb, ect., the child chooses a type of picture to scan.
After 5 cards are chosen and scanned, the child can play the story and watch it come to life. There is animation in the illustrations and the words available for the child to either read themselves or have it read to them.
2. Mask Play
The mask play allows a child to get into character and record their voice saying certain phrases, or saying anything at all.
You can speed up or slow down the voice to make the recording sound different. Kids get a kick out of this. It’s your own little voice changer and it’s very entertaining!
3. Build a Space Ship
Children get to design their own space ship and fly it through space when they are done. You have 4 cards you need to pick and scan to design your own space ship.
Once you have scanned all 4 cards to make your design, you have the option to fly your ship. Control your ship by moving your device up, down, and all around to avoid the asteroids all around the space ship.
4. Treasure Hunt
This is probably my favorite and my son’s favorite of them all!
All you have to do is scan a treasure hunt mat and the mat comes to life with a space scene. Your child searches through a 3-D universe, exploring the terrain to find 10 space objects.
The objects are glowing with a halo of light around them so you know it’s something you need in the treasure hunt.
The mats are double sided, allowing for numerous treasure hunt searches for your child to complete.
Get Qurious’ Explorer Box offers children a fun new, interactive way to connect physical play with technology. Allowing children to step into a 3-D universe and explore through imagination.
